Signe Jais

Signe Jais works primarily with collage as her medium. With scraps and different types of paper, most often from older books on e.g. Danish and international architecture, she takes us on a journey, both back in time specifically, but also away from what is time-specific. With a firm focus on revealing transitions, connections and movements Signe Jais often emphasizes the way in which different typologies, figures and ideas connect. And more recently, she draws, quite concretely, threads on the collages; The perspectives and figures are reinforced with many precisely placed threads. In several works, pages from an old book or mathematical studies are the base, as Jais builds her own version or study, keeping any given set of information, and a the same time isolating information as abstract figures. In this way, Signe Jais presents both the underlying structures and connections already existing, as well as abstracts in their own right.
