Anders Bonnesen

Anders Bonnesen works in a multitude of media: street signs, crocheted cotton or maculated literature, bronze, blackout blinds, painting, woodcuts, wood, carpets and multiples. In all these types of media, he focuses on language, words and letters. As the core of moderne living, communication, is turned upside down, twisted, words shiftet, Anders Bonnesen confuses us, he makes us laugh and he makes us wonder who - and at times where - we really are in this stream of messages, turned around sayings and poetic quotes. As the language gets desoriented, so do we.
Some works by Anders Bonnesen are executed in somewhat surprising materials - as in his large portraits of writers in hand-crocheted, maculated literature or a complete poem by Danish writer Per Højholt handknitted into a 76 meters long scarf - and thereby Bonnesen adds the reference to the latin connection between the words text and veawe. As the words are “vowen” into texts or messages, pauses, rythms and holes occur, and Anders Bonnesen points to both the possibilites and limitations of language.
